Sound of Metal doesn’t mess around, getting straight to the intense and terrifying moments that Ruben (Riz Ahmed), a drummer in a heavy metal duo with his girlfriend (the wonderful Olivia Cooke), starts to lose his hearing. They have so many possibilities to deepen a lot of the characters and expand the universe even further.There are some surprising additions to the best movies on Amazon Prime Video this month. Great stories, on a 5 year mission with wonderful diversity and a fresh take on that era of the trek universe. If you're looking for wokeness and a trek through emotions.watch Star Trek Discovery. The mention of other reviewers with "wokeness" I believe are mixing it up with ethnic diversity, which is beautiful and rich across the entire cast. The surrounding cast just excel it even further and it's tough to fault any of them. Particularly as a predecessor to Kirk who was a happy maverick. The rule breaking, edge of your seat decision making, pushing boundaries, constant uncertainty and volatility, tongue in cheek scenarios, a healthy dose of sarcasm, wit and humour all mixed with a decent amount of action, wide variety of aliens and great effects and CGI. It has embraced that which we're all used to from that era of the Trek universe. You need to take this into account when evaluating, looking at what the mission is, looking at the sets, costumes and all round character of the show.

In terms of when this is set, it's important to remember it's just before the original series with Kirk and way before The Next Generation. A Lieutenant Commander may be addressed as a Commander or Lieutenant Commander but never as just a Lieutenant, so either her rank insignia or the manner she is addressed by the rest of the crew is in error. Ortegas is addressed as a Lieutenant but is wearing Lieutenant Commander's strips. Either way both of their rank insignia are not matching the rank they are addressed by.
Commander stripes but is addressed as a Lieutenant, but it would make more sense for her to be a Lieutenant Commander.
La'an is the ship's chief of security and the ship's second officer, she is also wearing Lt. Spock at this point is a Lieutenant but he is wearing Lieutenant Commander's stripes, a Lieutenant just has one stripe. Commander if they have not been in the position long. It is not uncommon for a ship's first officer to be a Lt.
AMAZON PRIME STAR TREK DEEP SPACE NINE FULL
A Lieutenant Commander's rank insignia is a full stripe under a thin stripe (in TOS it is a full stripe and a staggered stripe). Number One is introduced as "Lieutenant Commander Una Chin-Riley" yet she is wearing the rank insignia of a full commander: two full stripes.
